Partial vs. Full Service: Factors to Consider When Choosing a Moving Package

Blog

Moving house can be a stressful project if you don't prepare adequately for it. In addition to packing your entire home, you also need to find a suitable moving company for the job. Today, removalists offer two package options: partial service and full service. A partial-service package is where you pack your items, and the moving company only loads and transports them to your new home. With a full-service package, the company packs, loads, offloads and unpacks the items for you.

Choosing between the two options may seem easy, but it isn't always. Here are some guiding factors to help you make an informed choice.

The Need for Convenience

Moving is stressful, and the last thing you want is to put more pressure on yourself during the process. Packing on your own tends to be difficult and time-consuming. Most people have to start packing at least a month before the D-day. Therefore, as you choose your package, think about whether you want to enjoy convenience or pack by yourself.

If you don't have family or friends to help, getting a full-service package would be ideal. You won't have to lift a finger as the removalists will do everything for you. All you have to do is walk them through your house so they can prepare a packing plan. However, if you have help, getting partial service would be ideal.

Long-Distance Move Implications

Whether you're moving for long or short distances can affect the package you choose for your moving needs. The most crucial factor to consider here is the fragility of your items. When self-packing, most people don't take enough precautions to protect fragile possessions. During a long-distance move, items can be thrown around the moving truck a lot. Wrapping fragile ones with blankets may not be enough to protect them.

Therefore, if you have fragile things, it's good to ask your removalists to pack them for you. They have the proper materials to pack your items and protect them from breakage. Some full-service companies even offer moving insurance. However, if you packed yourself, you may not be eligible for compensation, especially if the damage resulted from negligent packing.

Cost of Moving and Packing Services

One of the most important considerations is the cost of partial vs. full service. Partial-service packages tend to be more affordable as the removalists aren't involved in the packing process. As you compare the cost, do so against the factors listed above. For example, taking days off work to pack may mean a reduction in income. Similarly, if items get damaged in the move, you will end up spending more money to replace them.

Weigh the costs against other factors to determine the best choice. If the amount you would lose on damaged items is significantly high, you'd be better off getting a full-service company.

Storing old books

My dad was a huge collector of old books. He had such a beautiful collection when he passed away, and he left it all to me. I don't have enough space to display them yet, but I do want to hold onto them so that when I have enough space I can set up a library at home and really enjoy them. This blog is all about how to store old books for a long period of time, so that they stay in great condition. I hope it will be useful for other people with big collections of vintage books.
